The Impossible Dream Assignment

In our Social Science 5 class, we were asked to watch this video and answer some questions regarding it. :)

1. How would you describe the family in the video?

Based on what I see and observe in our society, this family seems normal. Normal in the sense that this is what is happening in the common lives of common people. A mother doing everything and a father doing his job only and kids with chores for girls and happiness for boys.

2.  What stereotypes are presented in the video?  Describe specific situations as example.

Almost everything in this video is stereotypical. First, a wife who wakes up very early in the morning just to take good care of her kids especially her son and also to prepare their food, and we all know that kitchen is mostly associated to women. Second, a seemingly-maniac like husband, which can be seen while he was working and whistling to a pretty lady. Third, female workers with a male boss. Next, a drunkard husband and a wife who goes to the market and buy things needed in the house. Then, the father and his son, watching TV while the mother and the daughter is cleaning the house. Lastly, a TV show that depicts women as slaves.

3. Taking into account our previous class discussions, what are your personal insights after watching the video?

Well, my initial reaction after watching this video was to share it to my friends. With a caption that goes, " Bai, tan-aw mo ani, para manindot inyong future." Seeing this, I was kinda sad that this is what is happening to most of us, what we see on TV, I mean, there is no equality in this stuff. We must act now, but I still don't know how. I actually wanted to deny, but it seems, that this is what is happening in our house. I might just then spread gender equality first in my family before spreading it to the world.
